I don’t think I’m the only one who likes to fully clean and organize their house/apartment/room when the seasons change. Also, my mom taught me to leave the house clean and organized before we went on vacation and so I always make sure my room is all good. In today’s blog post I’m going to share my tips on how to get organized for Summer.
I really like to declutter and organize my stuff once in a while and I’ll be sharing my tips in today’s blog post. I love to have the season change as a reminder to declutter and organize again because you don’t have to do this every week but it’s important to make sure you do this once in a while. Let’s get organized for Summer!
How To Get Organized For Summer
Before we start organizing, it’s important to take a look at your stuff and see if everything still makes you happy. If not, it’s better to get rid of it. It’s possible to sell or donate stuff if they’re still in good shape. If things are expired or damaged, throw them away. If you need a little help, I recommend reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.

One of the things I feel like I need to declutter every season is my wardrobe. My clothes start to clutter so quick and moreover, the weather changes and it’s the perfect timing to rearrange your closet. It’s time to move your winter/fall clothes to the back and put your spring/summer clothes to the front, so you can easily grab them. While making this change, it’s the perfect timing to see if you still like your clothes, if it still fits and if you miss something.
Another thing that tends to clutter very quick is paperwork. I usually do big paperwork decluttering in the Summer since I have Summer break from school and I want to start fresh for the new year. This just reminded me that after I cleared out my paperwork, I never have school again since I’m just graduated. Ieh! So weird though lol. Anyway, I like to go through all my paperwork to see what I need to keep and what I can throw away. I store my ‘need to keep’ paperwork in a folder. I have a couple of folders for different categories. That’s the easiest way to keep your paperwork stored and organized at the same time.
If you’re, just like me, a makeup hoarder it’s also the perfect time to take a look at your makeup collection to see if there’s any expired makeup in your drawers, makeup you don’t use anymore, makeup you never used and can donate/sell, and empty makeup. You do want to keep an eye on your collection and make sure everything is fine, clean and organized.
Of course, there are many more categories. You might need to take a look at your shower stash, skincare stash, books, magazines, etc. as well.

One of the most important things about organizing is deciding where things belong. This way every item has its own place and it’s easier to keep your house/apartment/room organized. You won’t have things laying around anymore!
I personally like to store things in trays/baskets/boxes so I can easily put things away. If you don’t have any, make sure to get some because this makes it way easier to store things and also give them their own place. It’s possible to label them if you’re scared that you will lose your stuff. Make sure to categorize items which gives you a good overview.
If you still need a little bit more help, I recommend reading Marie Kondo’s blog post over here.
